ESG Reporting

GRI Standards Report

Build a sustainability report in accordance with the GRI Standards (GRI 1 Foundation, GRI 2 General Disclosures, GRI 3 Material Topics, plus the relevant GRI Topic and Sector Standards), the world's most widely used voluntary sustainability reporting framework and the one several regulators point to when they have not written their own standard yet (e.g. the UAE SCA). Covers the newly effective GRI 101 Biodiversity and GRI 14 Mining Sector Standard (reporting periods starting 1 January 2026) and routes climate and energy disclosures toward GRI 102 and GRI 103 (published June 2025, effective for reporting from 1 January 2027), which GRI built for interoperability with ESRS via the GRI-ESRS Interoperability Index. Use this skill whenever the user mentions GRI, Global Reporting Initiative, GRI 1, GRI 2, GRI 3, GRI Universal Standards, GRI Sector Standards, GRI Topic Standards, "in accordance with GRI", "with reference to GRI", a GRI content index, or needs a sustainability report structure when no jurisdiction specific standard applies yet. Does not run a second, parallel double materiality engine: for impact materiality scoring it reuses this workspace's existing csrd-esrs assessment where one exists.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between 'in accordance with' and 'with reference to' GRI?

'In accordance with' means a company has met every GRI requirement for its material topics. 'With reference to' means it has used selected GRI Standards or parts of them without meeting every requirement; both are valid ways to use GRI, and the report states which one applies.

When do the new GRI 101 and GRI 14 standards apply?

GRI 101 Biodiversity and GRI 14 Mining Sector Standard apply to reporting periods starting 1 January 2026.

How does GRI relate to CSRD/ESRS?

GRI 102 and GRI 103 (published June 2025, effective for reporting from 1 January 2027) were built by GRI for interoperability with ESRS, via the GRI-ESRS Interoperability Index.

Does it run its own materiality assessment?

No, not a second, parallel one. For impact materiality scoring, it reuses this workspace's existing csrd-esrs assessment where one exists.

Who references GRI when they have no standard of their own?

Several regulators, such as the UAE's Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), point companies to GRI when they have not yet written their own sustainability reporting standard.
